Since its inception in 1971, Wesleyan Gospel Choir has been on the move for Christ. With its various styles of presenting the word of God, Wesleyan has touched hearts everywhere. The choir is known for its fiery brand of gospel music consisting of traditional, contemporary, spirituals, anthems, and the good old foot stomping, hand clapping selections. Wesleyan has been featured with John P. Kee, Ann Nesby, and Dorothy Norwood to name a few. Around the campus of SSU and the city of Savannah, Wesleyan is known as the “heart and soul of SSU”; quoted by Dr. Carlton E. Brown, former President of Savannah State University.
The choir has been under the direction dynamic leaders such as: Artie Maxwell, Min. Jeffery Miller, Korie Bowie, and presently Min. C. Donte Jones. Other former directors include DeAndre Ervin and Adrian Dillion, who were instrumental in bringing Wesleyan back to the campus. Pioneers of Wesleyan who have paved the way for many accomplishments and contributions are Edna B. Jackson and Juanita Adams. Our present and primary advisor is Mr. Shaunce Riley. The choir will continue to press toward the mark while delivering the good news through song.
